INTERVIEW — VOL.08

POOL

Text _ Solidus Editorial

POOL is a 3DCG artist whose work centres on anonymous figures of indeterminate gender, age, and nationality. Faceless yet full of presence, these characters inhabit a range of quietly vivid scenes. Committed to letting the work speak entirely for itself, POOL deliberately keeps their own identity out of the picture. Here, they share the song that has long kept them quiet company while they think.

Could you tell us about your work?

I'm a 3DCG artist.

When and where do you usually listen to music?

Often while commuting or working.

What song would you like to share with us today?

"Inside Out" by "Richard Crandell".

Listen on Apple Music

How and when did you first come across this song?

I enjoy browsing records by their covers — I'll pick up something from a shelf of music I love just based on the artwork. That's how I found this one.

"Richard Crandell" is a guitarist, but this album was made with mbira after illness made it difficult for him to play guitar. It's a record born from constraint — and that comes through in the sound.

Do you have any particular memories or moments you associate with this song?

I played it at my first solo exhibition "SIBLING" at HB Gallery.

After discovering this album I explored his other work too, but this one feels the most peaceful to me — personally, it's the record that brings me the most stillness.

How do you feel this song has influenced who you are today?

For me, it's one of those pieces of music that sharpens my focus when I need to think deeply about something.

Is there any music you've been listening to lately, or any artists you've been interested in?

It's quite a mix, but "machinefabriek", "Ratatat", "HAUSCHKA", and "Peter Broderick" are artists I keep coming back to.

Is there anything you make a point of doing in your everyday life?

Taking notes whenever I notice or discover something.

Do you have any upcoming exhibitions or announcements you'd like to share?

I'm currently focused on client work and have no exhibitions planned in the near future, but I share updates on X, Instagram, Threads, and other platforms.
