Could you tell us about your work?

I'm an illustrator and pixel artist.

When and where do you usually listen to music?

I love cassette tapes, so I keep a deck on my desk and listen while I work.

What song would you like to share with us today?

"ミルクティー" (Milk Tea) by "UA".

How and when did you first come across this song?

I first heard it in middle school — the music video came on TV.

Do you have any particular memories or moments you associate with this song?

At the time I was living in a suburban housing development — the kind where identical houses stretch on and on in every direction. I remember feeling a real sense of claustrophobia and restlessness.

The song shared something with that place, but it also conjured scenes full of humidity and sweetness. The more I listened, the more my perception of where I grew up began to shift.

How do you feel this song has influenced who you are today?

I think it taught me to pay attention to ordinary life when looking for creative themes.

Is there any music you've been listening to lately, or any artists you've been interested in?

"くおんのあわい" (Kuon no Awai) by "Masanori Nozawa".

Is there anything you make a point of doing in your everyday life?

Between work sessions, I practice yoyo, Irish flute, and shinobue in turn. I start by learning a simple movement, then stop thinking and just focus on how my body feels — it clears my head.

Yoyo especially — the resonance of metal, the friction of the string, the centrifugal force at my wrist, the spin I feel through my fingertips. There's something quietly absorbing about all those small sensations.

Working from a foundation in pixel art, hermippe creates work across advertising, interior design, apparel, product packaging, and video, as well as original pieces through risograph, collage, silkscreen, and painting. Also active in music as "OTAY" and runs a cassette tape label called "Thankass". Yoyo enthusiast.
